Boys Sprints 100 Meters Though he had to face 2-time double state champion Muhammad Khalfani more than his share last year, Myles Valentine of Upland enters the 2014 as the clear favorite in the boys sprints. In fact, Valentine's PR of 10.33 (10.42 legal) ranks him in the top five nationally. He was the runner-up in the CIF State Finals to Khalfani, and was the Southern Section D1 Champion (see that great race video below). Valentine, just a junior, leads a group of talented young sprinters as a strong group of seniors has graduated. In fact, the top four returners in the state are non-seniors. In addition to Valentine, other top returners include junior Malik Roberson of Serra, sophomore Tarrick Brock of Crespi, and junior John McDonald of Weston Ranch (with McDonald joins Valentine as the only returning state finalists).
Myles Valentine of Upland is the top returner in the 100 and 200 meters. Here is his decisive win at the CIF SS Division 1 Finals last May.

200 Meters With a large group of seniors leaving us last spring, including 7 of 8 state finalists, it's time for a new crop of boys sprinters to come to the front in the 200 as well. Junior Myles Valentine of Upland is our top returner based on time, with a PR of 21.05,and consistently performed in the low to mid 21's all season. Myles was the Southern Sectoin D1 Finals Champion. Following Valentine are junior John McDonald of Weston Ranch and senior Spencer Danner of San Juan Hills are Valentine's closes rivals, with PRs of 21.32 and 21.44, respectively.
200 Meters Top Returners
400 Meters Alexis Robinson of Eureka in the NCS is the #3 returner nationally. Spending most of the season up near his home in Eureka, he dominated local competition, taking first place in nearly every race he entered. He took ran his PR of 46.55 at the CIF State Finals when it matter most, earning second place honors. Frank Kurtz of Heritage is also from the NCS and Robinson's closest rival. Kurtz won at the Sacramento Meet of Champions where he registered his best time of 47.03. He also won the prestigious Stanford Invitational, and wound up fourth in the State Final. Ronny Hall of Serra (Gardena) has a PR of 47.19 and cracked 48 seconds at least five times last year - he is certainly within striking distance of the top two. Earning a fifth place finish in the state final, Ronny was a key member of Serra's dominant 4x100 and 4x400 relays teams.
